put pop music on pause

today's 'pop' (popular) music is garbage;
these is no putting it lightly. the radio is
so bad i would rather listen to traffic than
attempt to rifle through countless stations
spewing out subpar sound waves.

this past week i was at home in michigan
where i was limited to a car radio; challenged
to find enjoyable music only to be saddened
by the noise of tacky radio DJs, disney teeny
bop trash, and absolutely senseless rap.

however, i did some snooping at my dad's house
and landed on a wonderful 3disc collection of
music written and produced by holland-dozier-
holland (the producers and writers behind the
'motown sound'). so i slipped in disc1 and started
cooking myself a light lunch. i found it near
impossible to keep still and quite; shouting every
word with a smile and dancing about the kitchen
like a 1950's housewife.

so i got to thinking; what happened to good
popular music? feel good music about love and
friends and life? sung by talented singers backed
up by real musicians... catchy songs about love,
sincere happiness, and exchanging emotion
packed words? these songs will forever be
classics and its a shame that for some people
they stand in the same rankings as britney
spears and hannah monatana.

i know people are out there right now creating
and playing this type of respectful music. i'm
simply wondering why it's not clogging up
the air waves? i have been shamelessly searching
for current talented singers and musicians; people
who deserve radio time and contracts. this leads
me to madeleine peyroux-- now she is not 'new'
to the music scene by any means, but she is
killing it and consistently found on repeat on
my itunes. so listen to this performance and
try to tell me she isn't talented. tell me she
does not deserve to be a chart topper.

this has been a long enough rant--- ENJOY!
